Pressure Damage Prevention & Management Fundamentals – Half Day
Overview
This half day face-to-face course is designed to enable clinicians who may encounter clients at risk of, or with, pressure damage, to develop a greater understanding of the risks associated in the development of pressure damage, and the actions that need to be taken to reduce this risk and manage pressure damage.

Module objectives
At the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Recognise the risk factors associated with pressure damage
- Be able to undertake screening and pressure damage risk assessment
- Be able to identify vulnerable skin and correctly categorise pressure damage
- Take the appropriate actions to help prevent or manage pressure damage using the aSSKINg Bundle as a framework
- Be aware of the role pressure damage equipment plays in pressure damage prevention and resources available to select and order equipment.
Who should attend?
This session is aimed at all clinicians, registered and non-registered, working with patients, as specified (Groups B & C) within Oxford Health Policy for the prevention and management of pressure damage (CP66).
Pressure Damage Prevention & Management – Advanced Course – Full day
Overview
This whole day face-to-face course is designed to enable clinicians who regularly encounter clients at risk of, or with, pressure damage, to develop a greater understanding of the risks associated in the development of pressure damage and the actions that need to be taken to reduce this risk and to manage existing pressure damage.
- Duration: half day
- Delegates: 20 max
Module objectives
At the end of the session, attendees will be able to:
- Recognise the risk factors associated with pressure damage
- Be able to undertake screening and pressure damage risk assessment
- Be able to identify vulnerable skin and correctly categorise pressure damage
- Take the appropriate actions to help prevent or manage pressure damage using the aSSKINg Bundle as a framework
- A comprehensive understanding of factors to consider when selecting pressure relieving equipment and how to weigh up a variety of influencing factors in selecting appropriate equipment
- The impact of posture on risk of pressure damage, how to assess posture when seated and in bed and immediate care to mitigate postural issues and onward referral
- The importance of nutritional intake including nutritional assessment and food fortification
- Be able to put comprehensive management plans together through exploration of case studies
Who should attend?
This session is aimed at registered and non-registered clinicians, working in those services whose clients often suffer with pressure damage (Group A) as specified within Oxford Health Policy for the prevention and management of pressure damage (CP66).
Requirements
Prior to attending either of the above courses, attendees must complete the online Introduction and core tissue viability modules course. This is a requirement for all the Tissue Viability Courses but only needs to be completed once.
Introduction course content
- Partnership working: explores the issue of patient concordance and introduces the technique of Motivational Interviewing in our interactions with patients as a way of engaging patients in their care
- Holistic patient assessment (Tissue Viability): explores the variety of internal and external risk factors that can contribute towards delayed wound healing
- Nutrition for wound healing & pressure ulcer prevention: offers practical advice on assessing and enhancing nutritional intake to both prevent wounds and aid wound healing
Completion of the Core Module and attendance at either the half-day or full-day face-to-face course are required to be certified as having completed the course.
Attendees are also advised to complete the Wound prevention, assessment and management course.
