Bowel incontinence
Ensure a balanced diet
A healthy, high-fibre diet is key to preventing constipation and supporting regular bowel movements. Include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables in your meals.
Stay hydrated
Drink enough fluids throughout the day to prevent constipation, but avoid excessive intake of caffeinated or alcoholic beverages.
Regular exercise
Regular physical activity helps promote healthy bowel function and reduces the risk of constipation. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity most days of the week.
Manage bowel movements
Respond to the natural urge to have a bowel movement rather than delaying it. Waiting too long can result in harder stools and incontinence.
Pelvic floor exercises
Strengthening your pelvic floor muscles through regular exercises can help improve control over bowel movements.
Avoid straining
Straining during bowel movements can weaken the pelvic floor muscles and increase the risk of incontinence. Take your time and avoid excessive pressure when passing stools.
