The East Oxford District Nursing Team wins May’s Exceptional People Team Award – a brilliant team providing both exceptional patient care, staff, and student support.

Based at the East Oxford Health Centre, the East Oxford District Nursing Team, provide nursing care that allows people to remain in their own homes, maintain their independence or have additional support after being discharged from hospital.

The team offer a very warm, relaxed, and positive experience for all their patients – going the extra mile to provide the best care they can in people’s homes. They regularly receive positive feedback, with a GP recently expressing how appreciative a family were of the end of life care their loved one received, they were delighted the patient’s and their wishes were met.

Whilst caring for patients, the team also look out for each other. They are always there to lend a helping hand and frequently have students join the team. Whilst the service overall is under a huge amount of pressure, this team still made individuals feel valued and welcomed into the team. They create a safe and protected learning environment which has been recognised and appreciated by the learners.

They are an exemplary team, delivering excellent patient care with care and compassion.

The nomination

The East Oxford District Nursing Team was nominated by Operations Manager Amanda Jones, for their supportive and positive team environment.

Amanda commented:

“Many heartfelt accolades have been received which highlight the ethos of the team as a positive, supportive environment and a real sense of having benefitted from the experience.”

“Your dedication to providing high quality care to patients in their homes and communities is truly inspiring and has reinforced my desire to pursue a career in nursing. I will always remember the lessons I have learned from working with you and I am confident that they will serve me well in my future career as a nurse.

I am really pleased to recognise this team for their compassion and commitment, whilst facing a significant challenge to meet demand.”

District Nurse Team Leader Mary Hardwick commented: “Hearing that we were to receive the Exceptional People Team award was a real surprise for the team and a really lovely one.  We feel honoured and happy to have been recognised for our efforts to ensure that our team is a welcoming and a supportive one.”
