The Board and staff of Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust join with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust colleagues in mourning the loss of Dame Fiona Caldicott, their distinguished chair from 2009 to 2019, who passed away on Monday 15 February 2021.
David Walker, Oxford Health chair, said:
“Dame Fiona’s death is a great sadness. We watched with admiration her prudent steering of OUH as chair after a distinguished career as a psychotherapist, counsellor and as the first woman to be president of the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
“We pay tribute also to her work on data governance in the NHS – her name will live on through our efforts to exploit the rich seams of health data while respecting and protecting patient confidentiality.
“We join with our neighbours and colleagues in the University of Oxford and across the NHS in paying tribute to a distinguished clinician and college principal.”
Dame Fiona Caldicott’s name is enshrined in the data protection principles applied to all NHS patient data, and each trust has a Caldicott Guardian to oversee patient confidentiality.
