Walking with You (WWY)

What is the Walking With You (WWY) group?

WWY is a support group for anyone supporting children and young people, up to the age of 25, who are experiencing mental health difficulties. It is a safe space where you can talk freely among people who are walking the same path as you. There is no judgment, and it is completely confidential.

Our group will connect you with like-minded people who have walked in your shoes.

The group is led by our Participation Lead, Roxy Uritescu, and supported by some parent/carer volunteers. This means our sessions are based on what parents/carers want to talk about.

How often does the group meet?

We meet monthly for one and half hours with most meetings being held online but we do also have some face to face sessions.

When is the next meeting?

Our Walking With You sessions page has the details of our upcoming meetings.

What happens at a Walking With You (WWY) meeting?

Our Participation Lead, Roxy Uritescu, hosts each  session and will introduce herself, out parent volunteers and that month’s CAMHS staff and/or guest speakers. There is usually a special topic or theme for each meeting that has been agreed upon with the parent volunteers. Previous topics include Autism/ADHD, Eating Disorders, Self harm, Anxiety, Bullying and many more.

At each meeting we have a professional from one or more of our CAMHS teams who will present on the chosen topic and is available to answer any questions you may have and advise where you can gain further support and information. We occasionally also have guests from external organisations joining us – previously we have had the SENCO director for Buckinghamshire.

There is also plenty of opportunity to talk to other parents who have a wealth of knowledge. However, if you would rather just listen that is course is fine as well

Who can join the Walking With You (WWY) group?

The group is open to anyone in Buckinghamshire who is supporting a child/young person experiencing difficulties up to the age of 25. You do not need to have a child/young person that has or is being seen by Buckinghamshire CAMHS in order to join the group.

What are the benefits of joining?

Parents/carers who attend our Walking With You sessions really appreciate the opportunity to talk to others who have been through similar experiences who can share practical tips and resources they have. All meetings have CAMHS professionals present who will talk about that month’s theme.

How do I join the Walking With You (WWY) group?

If you would like to join our group, please contact our Participation Lead, Roxy Uritescu. There is no commitment needed. You can attend as many or as few meetings as you like.

How can I help the Walking With You (WWY) group?

By just being part of the group you can help share your story and experiences with our parents and families that are going through similar situations.

However, if you would like to help with running the group we are always looking for additional parents to get involved.
