Walking With You volunteers

Would you like help run our support group for parent’s and carers?

We are always looking for volunteers who can listen to the concerns of parents and carers from the valuable perspective of lived experience.

Our parent/carer volunteers help run the group by supporting our Participation Lead, Roxy Uritescu, with the monthly meeting topic selection, taking the notes from each meeting and actively sharing their knowledge and experience.

What are the benefits of being a parent volunteer?

  • Meeting new people, increasing your knowledge and confidence in speaking about various topics and resources that could help other parents/carers
  • A sense of purpose from helping others who are in a similar situation to you
  • A sense of achievement from taking part in a community group
  • Engaging with a variety of professionals and influential people from different organisations
  • Gaining experience to add to CVs or job applications (our Participation Lead can provide you with a volunteering reference)

How much time would I need to offer?

All volunteers must complete Oxford Health’s volunteer induction training. Once you’ve been through this you can help as much or as little as you can:

  • For each meeting we need you to introduce yourself and participate in conversations wherever you feel comfortable
  • You would also help plan each session on our WhatsApp group or occasionally we meet on Teams to plan them ahead of time
  • One of the parent volunteers always takes notes at the session and gets paid for this. If you would be interested in doing this then please let us know
  • The total volunteering time is approximately 2 hours a month, with no pressure to attend each month
