Deborah, Trish and Germana support Oxford Health’s district nurses in Eynsham and Witney and were nominated for the awards by the district nurses’ team leader Donna Worboys. Donna noted all three were experienced carers who had been re-deployed to the District Nursing Service and done extra training to ensure their skills were of the highest standard. Above all, their support frees up district nurses to attend to complex or palliative patients. Donna wrote:
“The care support workers have assisted with basic wounds and phlebotomy, delivered equipment and supplies and restocked palliative care boxes to support the District Nursing Team. Every visit they have undertaken has freed up a district nurse to attend to a complex or palliative patient. This has enabled the service to provide timely care to our vulnerable housebound population.
“Our care support workers display strong professional relationships with patients and their families, ensuring continuity where possible. They always offer to help with a smile, supporting colleagues and excellently integrating into the district nursing team. They have a wealth of experience and have been able to provide caring advice and support to families and inexperienced carers who are awaiting fast track funding for a formal care package.”
