Forensic child and adolescent mental health services (FCAMHS) help young people under 18 with mental health or neurodevelopmental concerns displaying behaviours that put others at risk, or are involved with the youth justice system. We help families and professionals support these young people, particularly when there are concerns about mental health or emotional difficulties.
Oxford Health NHS FT, as a lead provider, coordinates clinical FCAMHS provision across NHS South Central region (the Thames Valley, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Dorset). Our team covers the Thames Valley area (Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Berkshire) and we work with FCAMHS partners who cover the remainder of South Central. We have good relationships with other agencies in the Thames Valley (CAMHS, social care, education, youth offending teams and the third sector) and frequently work with them. We will also maintain contact with services beyond the Thames Valley if a young person is placed away from home and requires our ongoing input.
Referrals can be made by professionals from all agencies working with young people following discussions with them, their parents or carers. We offer professionals advice and support as well as direct assessment or support to young people.
