Innovating in mental health care

Oxford Health has been selected to be part of a new national NHS initiative to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care across the country through provider collaboration and clinical leadership.

Innovating in mental health care

The Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire West (BOB) Mental Health Provider Collaborative – formed by Oxford Health and Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (Berkshire Healthcare) in partnership with BOB Integrated Care Board – has been chosen by NHS England to be one of just nine collaboratives from across the country, which will receive specialist national help developing innovative new approaches to health care as part of the Provider Collaborative Innovators scheme.

Chief Executive of Oxford Health, Dr Nick Broughton, said: “I’m really pleased we’re going to be working more closely with Berkshire Healthcare to improve mental health care for our population.

“We will lead the transformation of mental health for our Integrated Care System (ICS) and build on our clinical and operational expertise to implement a population health management approach to address mental health needs in our ICS and make sure that resources are used in the best way possible to tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes for our population.“

Chief Executive of Berkshire Health, Julian Emms, said: ““This new provider collaborative supports us in closer working with primary care, local authority, and voluntary sector partners to improve mental health services.”

“Berkshire Healthcare enjoys a positive working relationship with Oxford Health. We look forward to developing and innovating mental health care in our partnership for patients.”

The Provider Collaborative will drive the transformation of mental health services working as part of a broader Mental Health Partnership set up across the ICS, bringing together partners from primary care, local authority and the voluntary sector working across Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and West Berkshire.

The nine collaboratives selected by NHS England are:

  • UCL Health Alliance
  • Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Acute Hospital Alliance
  • Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire West Mental Health Provider Collaborative
  • North East London Mental Health Learning Disability and Autism Provider Collaborative
  • The Cheshire and Merseyside Acute and Specialist Trust Collaborative
  • South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Acute Federation
  • Leicestershire Partnership and Northamptonshire Healthcare Group
  • Foundation Group Provider Collaborative
  • Mid and South Essex Community Collaborative

The national scheme aims to enable collaboratives to share innovation and troubleshoot issues with each other. The learning from each innovator will be cascaded to the NHS across the country to ensure all local communities benefit from these innovative ways of working being trialed through the national scheme.
