OBMH has submitted a planning application for the new mental health unit planned on the Manor House site in Aylesbury.

The brand new purpose-built unit will replace wards at the Tindal Centre, Aylesbury and the John Hampden Unit, Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

OBMH has been working with staff, service users, carers and the local community to help with the design and layout of the new building. Several public meetings have been held over the past year and the Trust will continue to organise meetings to ensure everyone is kept up to date with the development.

Julie Waldron, Chief Executive said, “We would like to thank everyone who has attended our open meetings and shared their ideas with us for the new mental health unit on the Manor site. Their involvement is hugely valuable and has helped us to work with our architects to design a building that will meet the needs of our service users and will be acceptable to the local community.

“The new building is set to be one of the Trust’s biggest and most significant developments and we hope that the local people in Buckinghamshire will continue to support the Trust as the project progresses.”

The new development will include 80 inpatient beds, a reception area, café, PALS office and other facilities for service users and staff.

The Trust is hoping to start building the new unit in late Spring 2010 and the opening is planned for Summer 2012.

OBMH will be working with Kier Health to deliver the new mental health unit, who they have appointed as part of the government’s ProCure21 initiative.
