Parent/Carer Support
Parents/carers are a crucial part of the recovery process of the young person. We aim to support you as much as possible in your role. This will be in different ways:
Family-based treatment
This is the core treatment in helping young people to recover. You will be involved very closely in plans to assist your child in establishing normal eating and gaining weight appropriately.
Parent work
We will also offer time for you as parents on your own to discuss any concerns and receive support.
Multi-family therapy
Multi-family therapy is an evidenced based approach in which 4-6 families come together for a 4-day workshop to enhance the recovery process.
Parent group
On the third Monday of every month at 5.15pm – 6.30pm there is a parent group to help parents increase their understanding of eating disorders and how to manage and to develop skills in a friendly and supportive setting.
Carer’s workshop
This is a one-day workshop aiming to enhance your understanding and increase your skills in helping your young person to recover. This workshop is run 3 times a year jointly with the Adult Eating Disorder Service at Cumnor Methodist Hall, Cumnor Village.
Systemic family therapy
If there is a need to talk about family relationship issues you may be offered family therapy sessions with our family therapist.
