The GP working day

The first data sets of Appointments in General Practice have been published by NHS Digital. The aim of the publication is to inform users about activity and usage of GP appointments historically and how primary care is impacted by seasonal pressures, such as winter.

But what happens between appointments? A study by The Healthcare Improvement Studies (THIS) Institute is looking at what GPs do in an average day to see what interruptions get in the way of their work, and find out which ones are caused by operational failures. THIS Institute are currently recruiting GP practices for the third phase of their study where they will be observing GPs at work. GPs can find out more about the study “Identifying operational failures in general practice” and what participation involves here.
